Abstract:  Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) has been employed for direct imaging of drug and biomolecules in tissue sections. Imaging MS joins established techniques such as immunohistochemistry for obtaining spatial information of analytes within biological tissues. Several examples will be given to demonstrate the utility of imaging MS in drug discovery. Finally, in vivo molecular imaging for clinical development will be discussed.
